FSC First proudly celebrates Black Business Month by honoring outstanding Black-owned businesses in our community. This month, we recognize Bruce Thompson, owner of the Courtyard by Marriott Bowie, a premier hotel destination located in Bowie, Maryland.
About the Business
The Courtyard by Marriott Bowie is more than just a hotel—it’s a welcoming destination near both Maryland and Washington, DC attractions. Guests enjoy spacious rooms, modern meeting and event spaces, catering and bistro food service (including Starbucks coffee and a full bar), a pool and patio, a well-equipped fitness center, laundry facilities, and complimentary amenities such as free parking and electric car charging stations. The property is also a proud Guest Satisfaction Award winner, known for its focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Whether hosting business meetings, training sessions, sports and tour groups, family reunions, wedding receptions, or special events, Courtyard Bowie stands out as a premier venue for gathering and connection.
Overcoming Challenges
Bruce Thompson’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the hotel through unprecedented times. Courtyard by Marriott Bowie launched in 2019, only to face the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after. With travel and events at a standstill, hotel occupancy dropped to 20–30% for several months—yet, while many properties closed permanently, Courtyard Bowie persevered. Today, it stands as a shining example of resilience, adaptability, and the determination of Black-owned businesses in our region.
