One of the newest additions to the Woodmore Towne Center in Largo is KBQ Barbeque Restaurant, owned and operated by longtime hospitality specialists and restaurateurs, Kerry and Lya Britt. KBQ Real Barbeque is a women-owned and minority-owned restaurant that originally opened in the Bowie Fairwood Shopping Center in 2007. The small, remote location could not accommodate its growing business, so the principals made plans to relocate when their lease expired in September 2012.
Home of the famous “low and slow” barbeque, KBQ Barbecue has been included on Washington’s Cheap Eats list and was voted best ribs of the Washington Metropolitan area by Washingtonian Magazine. The barbeque is a line of smoked meats developed by food industry veteran Kerry Britt that includes ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken, hot country sausage and fish.
Through the Small Business Growth Fund, FSC First assisted KBQ Barbecue with their $400,000 relocation and reopening costs with a $200,000 loan for leasehold improvement, equipment, inventory and working capital.
